Ceramics on the Beach: Clay, Sea, and Inclusion on the Riviera di Ponente
Ceramics leave museums and arrive on the beach
Imagine having sand under your feet, the sound of the sea at your back, and a lump of clay in your hands ready to be modeled. You're not in a closed laboratory, you're not in a museum: you're on the beach, under the Ligurian sun, and you're participating in one of the most original and inclusive projects ever undertaken on the Riviera di Ponente.
It's called Ceramicabili on the Beach , and it's one of the initiatives of the Viaggi Senza Barriere project—the program promoted by the Municipality of Savona as leader, funded by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers - Minister for Disabilities, which unites five Ligurian municipalities around a common vision: accessible and inclusive tourism, truly designed for everyone.

What is Ceramicabili on the Beach?
Decoration and creativity workshops open to all
Ceramics arrives on the accessible beaches of the four municipalities of the Ceramics Bay with decoration and creativity workshops open to all. An experience that combines sea, culture, and inclusion, transforming the beach into an integral part of a holiday to be enjoyed and shared.
This isn't an activity reserved for those familiar with ceramics, nor for those without disabilities. It's designed to be enjoyed by everyone—tourists and residents, children and adults, people with and without disabilities—because clay knows no barriers.
The project partners
The workshops are held in collaboration with the Fondazione Museo della Ceramica di Savona ETS , ANCoS APS , and Dafne —a network of local organizations that combine ceramic skills, experience in social inclusion, and knowledge of the area.
Ceramic Bay: the land that gives meaning to the project
It's no coincidence that this project was born right here. Savona, Albissola Marina, Albisola Superiore, Celle Ligure, and Stella are municipalities united by a shared history of the sea, ceramic art, and culture. This is the Bay of Ceramics—the land where clay has been shaped for centuries, where artists like Lucio Fontana, Asger Jorn, and Wifredo Lam worked in the local kilns, where the ceramic tradition is still alive and well.
Bringing ceramics workshops directly to the beach means uniting the two strongest souls of this area: the sea and clay. And doing so in an inclusive manner means adding a third dimension: hospitality.
The Travel Without Barriers project
Ceramicabili on the Beach is part of a larger project. Travel Without Barriers was created to address a simple yet important challenge: the sea is this area's greatest resource, but it can't be the only one. Its cultural heritage, museums, and artisan workshops deserve to be experienced by everyone, regardless of their disability.
The project, promoted by the Municipality of Savona as lead partner and funded under the Interministerial Decree of August 1, 2024, on accessible tourism, has a duration of 24 months (May 2025 – April 2027) and includes accessible museums with multilingual audio guides and tactile maps, public beaches redeveloped with walkways and job chairs for access to the water, an Experiential Museum Tour, and training internships for people with disabilities in the tourism sector.

Participation is free and open to all, but reservations are required to ensure availability and best organize the reception of each participant.
