Savona Tells the Story of Saint Francis
From March 9 to October 8, 2026 / Savona
On the occasion of the celebrations for the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Municipality of Savona presents the program of initiatives that, in collaboration with the Chiabrera Theater, the Civic Art Gallery, the City of Deruta , several local cultural associations and the Capuchin Friars of Savona, will promote awareness and relevance of the message of the Saint, a central figure of Italian and European spirituality, culture and identity.
The calendar is structured through different languages, capable of appealing to different sensibilities and ages, thanks to meetings, historical insights, music, art exhibitions, and ceramics, centered on Saint Francis, a universal symbol of poetry, charity, and love for creation. A program of events, from March to October , that recounts the figure of the Saint, patron saint of Italy, highlighting his spirituality and, at the same time, his transversal role in the history of the arts and culture.
The first event will be with Simone Cristicchi (March 9-10-11) on stage at the Teatro Chiabrera with the play "FRANCISCUS the Madman Who Spoke to the Birds," by and with Simone Cristicchi, written with Simona Orlando. The play explores the life of the Saint of Assisi and the fine line between madness and sainthood, a key theme in Francis's personal and spiritual life. It also explores poverty, the search for perfect joy, universal spirituality, and the necessary utopia of a new humanity capable of living in harmony with creation.
Of national importance is the participation in Deruta in the exhibition "Francis, the Imprint of Ceramics - The Italian Ceramic Cities Recount Saint Francis," featuring a work created by our two factories, BF di Barbara Fresia and Ceramiche Agorà. From March to October, there will be in-depth meetings, concerts, urban hikes, guided tours, and exhibitions.
