URBAN TREKKING FROM LUXURY DRESS TO LITURGICAL DRESS: A REFINED UPCYCLING OF THE PAST FOR THE 18TH-CENTURY FABRICS OF THE SAVONA SANCTUARY

The trek will allow us to reflect on how the donation of sumptuous garments made to religious institutions by wealthy ladies, in addition to the usual devotional purposes, was often due to "questions of fashion": in fact, to avoid throwing away furnishing fabrics and expensive clothes of outdated taste, many wealthy people, women and men, donated them to churches, where they were reused for liturgical purposes.

A subtle thread thus links liturgical and secular clothing, allowing us to trace, through the analysis of the artefacts kept in the Sanctuary's textile warehouse, the eternal tyranny imposed by fashion.

In addition, brief basic notions on weaving and embroidery techniques will be offered.
